The Weisbrod Digest of Seminars ~ Archival Program ~ for the Podcast WDS DotCom Series ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The 2008 Summer Edition ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Why this
archive? There are three reasons. (1) I need an easy method to
revisit podcasts from time to time for reference purposes. (2) I want
to make available past issues for my subscribers. (3) For
a sense of immortality, many
authors hope a few of their unique ideas will continue on
so people will know they were once here.
This
archive program covers the period
from April 2005 to present. It's open to anyone that would like to
find any of my podcast shows and play them in an MP3 format (one
click). It's a "work in progress" and, as we speak 80
percent (or so) of the shows have been added. If there is something
you'd
like to hear, let me know and I'll be sure it's added and get back to
you right away. >message<

Introduction (One) For First-Time Listeners [-avail-100%-]
#1 The Premier Edition:
With the exception of way too much mic artifact stuff, it's not too bad
for a first attempt. I talked about chronic degenerative disorders;
websites & e-commerce; a rediscovery of hypnotism; weight control
from a paleo-anthropological point of view; and the cerebellum approach
to cigarette smoking. I used a Spike Jones cut to "pay my respects" to
our politicians...I hope that didn't offend too many folks. This
podcast was first aired April 15, 2005. These three podcast shows are
temporarily unavailable. http://www.podcastwds.com/pcone.mp3
Back to Contents >Fast Scroll<[-avail-2/3-] #2 April 20, 2005 I talked about some of the many scoops (e.g., Trent Lott, Dan Rather, et al.) grabbed by bloggers. I also reviewed some of my experience to date about building a podcast -- the mechanics. http://www.podcastwds.com/pctwo.mp3 [-avail-2/3-] #9 May 10, 2005 In this podcast I announced that I would be turning my three weblogs into podcasts. I thought I would need to pull every third mp3 off-line for space reasons, but so far that has been unnecessary. I talked about Ruth Heidrich's new book, Senior Fitness. And Ruth sent me an e-mail about getting audio on-line ... I had a good time picking that apart. I used up about half of my show time talking about the commercial potential of podcasting. http://www.podcastwds.com/pcthree.mp3 ~

So here is the abstract for the Do Your Own Website series starting with the premier issue recorded on August 6, 2005. It's a 16 minute recording. I quoted from article and my eBooks From Zero To A Website and Instant Image Websites in which I talked about websites of days of your. These websites were both beautiful and difficult to navigate, with an overuse of hyperlinks. I defined three categories of website: The Vanity, the Auto-Function, and the Interactive website. I offer examples of each type. Which type should you use? Permission to use the bumper music was granted my Madacy Music Group but was subsequently withdrawn for all future issues. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc1web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Building A Website - #2 August 28, 2005 This show was created especially for those that believe they could never build their own website or, if they could, they wouldn't be interested. Before a final decision is made listen to this podcast. I offered a free tutorial that will get you started. I compared current high tech with the days of the 19-century high-speed printing and coined the term Digitally Illiterate. I talked about the danger of unknown information, especially unknown Information that is not known is unknown. I talked about how much fun building a website could be. I talked about using NotePad, and other nuts & bolts of starting your fist website. I focused on the HTML editor and a FTP programs and moved on from there. I mentioned with reference Netscape's Composer. If you have little knowledge of the mechanics website creation, you will enjoy this podcast. The opening bumper is a podsafe midi version of The Pink Panther. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc2web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Website Building #3 October 5, 2005. It's an 18 minute show. In podcast #3, I begin by stressing the importance of basic webmastering skills from a conversation with a young lady for which the advise could have been life-changing. I talked about, at some length, the concept of paradigm shifts. I briefly talked about and inked to Nanotechnology. I again compared the term functionally illiterate and digitally illiterate. I discussed the difference between web mastering and web design. I discussed this at length. I used Geek News Central as a example of a web design and branding. I contrasted the style of Adam Curry and Dave Winer. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc3web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Website Building #4 October 27, 2005 Podcast #4 is just under 18 minutes, I reviewed some of the things I discussed in #29 of my Podcast WDS series. I focused on the word CONTROL. I talked about the problems from loss of control (resulting to loss of power) by a number of US Presidents. I made an analogy of farming out the sexual part of your marriage. I moved on to focus on tutorials as a way putting an eBiz website on-line -- as distinguished from templates or webmasters. I talk about how to do Screen Shots on a Windows machine. The step by step is in at the October 27, 2005 BlogWebsite post. I talked about a screen-sharing program, MS Paint, and screenshots. I talked about how to use me as a consultant. Bumper music: I started using cuts from public domain album, Favorite Instrumentals Of The Islands, with Al Kealoha Perry. Presented by Webley Edwards on Capitol Records. It was recorded in the early 1950s. There was no registration or copyright information on the record jacket so it has become Public Domain. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc4web.mp3 Reference: http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc29.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Build Your Own Website - #5web January 20, 2006 (16:42) During Issue #5 a I whine about my computer problems and then drift into the a discussion of websites and WYSIWYGs. As always, I argue that do-it-yourself is better. I go over some of the things covered in show #3 and #4. I talk about Netscape Composer, which is now Mozilla Composer – both free open-source programs, and now there's NVU. I talked about using an HTML editor for writing e Books (as opposed to a PDF file). I suggested you order one or two of my free eBooks. I talked about a Phoenix rising from the dust as the success factor of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Dave Winer, Adam Curry, et al. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc5web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Build Your Own Website - #6web March 27, 2006 (23:01) PC 6web. 3-27-06. I started the show talking about my recent hardware changes (the IBM backup and some new software programs. I brag a bit about my TASCAM 424 and Shure Mic, but move quickly into my primary topic, the business venue as applied to the website. I talked about my local area venue. I discussed parallels between the website and the early 20th century mail-order catalog. We should never ignore the lessons of history. I talk about the blog and podcast. I went back to the Scopes Trial and then all the way back to the first venue, the African Savanna—the male territory versus the female hub. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc6web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Build Your Own Website - #7web May9, 2006 (17:23) PC 7web. 5-9-06. In this issue, I discourage the use of Webmasters and templates in favor of a better alternative. Can you guess what is the most powerful promotional tool on the internet? As a tree that falls in the forest is there sound? I made the usual rant against the Webmaster and template approach. I talked about and linked the “Realtor's Nightmare.” I talked about several types of rip-offs. Professional website: is it necessary? I first used the term “Glossy Magazine Style” website. I used the Fast-Food Facade vs Reputation-based model... and went on to discuss functionality. I offered a common template problem with an unhappy customer. How much support is necessary? Adam Curry said: There are no secrets, only information you don't yet have. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc7web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Build Your Own Website - #8web June 8, 2006 (17:42) PC 8web. As all podcasts in this series, this is directed to those that are interested in an e-commerce website or weblog but overwhelmed by the huge number choices. I will walk you through my website building process. I use some on-line screen shots to add a visual dimension. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc8web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Build Your Own Website - #9web August 13, 2006 (19:50) I repeat myself by saying the most important skill for those who want an e-commerce business is the mastery of an HTML Editor. I move quickly to abstract listings of the previous 8 website shows in preparation to adding them to the archive program. I finish up with a mildly hostile email suggesting that most of what I'd been saying was hogwash. My response was a serendipitous gift from a radio ad that happened to be playing at the exact moment I was reading the email. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc9web.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 76 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Podcast WDS #76: ShowDate: 3-5-07 Duration: 32:06. Podcast #76 is the official introduction to a new eBook titled WebSites on a ShoeString. I did, however, cover some of the usual topics and offered number 23 of the Psychology of Mythology series. For this, I talked about the mythology used by a couple of vitamin sellers. I also mentioned the CherieCast as a recent favorite podcast in the feel-good category. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc76.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4Fav ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Issue #4Fav, July 16, 2007 [30:40] I started this discussion by outlining the RSS/XML program and the podcatchers that you put somewhere on your hard-drive. I mention some of the podcasts that I listen to the minute they come on-line. I then list other popular shows. I discuss the interactive shows called TalkCasts. The one I'm familiar with is TalkShoe. It comes with a tutorial that's linked in the show notes. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc4Fav.mp3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ add ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

the older guideline of fair use. I also introduced my concept of The
Phoenix Event. http://www.podcastwds.com/pc17.mp3

I offer a plug to Adam Curry & Dave Winer -- not that they need it. I then moved on to discuss the parsimonious approach to dieting. I complete this podcast by pointing out the difference between data-driven and doctrine-driven thinking. http://www.podcastwds.com/PC8.mp3 ~

I started
with some podcasting talk,
which
let me into some nostalgic ramblings of my computer history from the
1980s I offer a pretty good trip for those that are heading for the
poor-house buying ink cartridges...which offered a segue to again
talk about my preference for podcasting hardware. http://www.podcastwds.com/pc10.mp3

I
leave tech stuff and go back
100,00 years and more. I discuss the bilaterally specialized brain and
the things this brain made possible (not all good). This topic gave me
an opening to talk down about politicians -- I love doing that! I also
talked about deductive vs inductive thinking... another favorite topic.
I talk about my iPod purchase, and the motivation to forsake the
monitor screen. http://www.podcastwds.com/pc12.mp3

They got it wrong! I talked
again about my favorite tool, the TASCAM 424. I'll tell you that it
makes no difference if it's digital or analog. I talked about
microphones. [Ed Note: The Behringer
mic I ordered was slow to ship so
I ended up with a Samson.] I talk about the embarrassment
of building a
home-made pop screen. Then I change the theme of this podcast and
discuss chronic degenerative disorders. I then change back and talk
about backing up mp3 files. http://www.podcastwds.com/pc13.mp3~
